Most people shoot badly with a gun that does not fit, then blame themselves. A gun that fits comes up to the same place every time and puts the pattern where you are looking, without you having to hunt for the rib.
We fit with a try-gun, so length of pull, drop at comb and face, cast off or cast on, grip shape and toe-out can all be adjusted while you mount it, rather than guessed from a chart. We start by watching you mount the gun as you normally do, in the clothes you actually shoot in — a winter coat can change length of pull by half an inch — then work through gun mount, eye dominance and the pattern on a plate before touching a figure.
From there the work is straightforward: stock shortened or lengthened, a recoil pad or extension fitted, comb raised with a hard or an adjustable comb, cast bent in the press, or a new stock made to the measurements we have taken. We can also fit an adjustable comb to an existing stock, which is the sensible answer for anyone who shoots both game and clays, and for young shots who are still growing.
We will also fit a gun you are about to buy from us, so it leaves the shop right rather than nearly right. Allow an hour and a half for a fitting session, and ring first so we can book the time and have the plate set up.
