Terms and conditions

Nothing on this website can be bought online. Stock listings, prices and specifications are an invitation to enquire, not an offer capable of acceptance. A contract of sale is only formed in person at our premises, once we have seen your certificate where one is required and both parties are happy with the gun.

We take reasonable care over listings, but specifications are taken from measurement and from the gun itself and may contain errors, and a gun may be sold or reserved before a listing is updated. If a price is shown that is obviously wrong, we are not obliged to sell at it.

You must be legally entitled to possess the item you are buying. For shotguns we must see your original, valid shotgun certificate. For section 1 firearms we must see your original firearms certificate showing an authorised slot for the calibre concerned. Photocopies, photographs and expired documents cannot be accepted under any circumstances.

Air rifles and air pistols under the statutory power limits do not require a certificate, but you must be aged 18 or over to buy one, and we will ask for photographic identification if there is any doubt. It is an offence for us to sell an air weapon to anyone under 18, and we will refuse the sale rather than take a risk.

Every transfer is entered in our register and notified to the relevant firearms licensing department within seven days, as required by law. We may refuse or delay any sale where we are not satisfied about eligibility, and we may report concerns to the police. We do not have to give a reason for declining a sale.

Firearms and shotguns are handed over in person at our premises, to the certificate holder, against the original certificate. We do not post or courier guns to private individuals. Where a gun is bought from us for collection by another registered firearms dealer, the transfer is arranged dealer to dealer and the same checks apply at their end.

Air weapons under the statutory limits may only be sold face to face at our premises, in line with the Crime and Security Act 2010. We cannot post them to you.

We will hold a gun for you for seven days on a reservation, without payment, on the understanding that you tell us honestly if you change your mind so it can go back on the rack.

For longer than that we ask for a deposit, usually ten per cent. A deposit takes the gun off sale and is deducted from the balance. If you decide not to proceed, a deposit is refundable in full within fourteen days of being paid, and after that we may retain a reasonable amount to cover the period the gun was off sale. If you are waiting on a certificate variation, tell us and we will be flexible about the timescale.

Any figure we give you by email or over the telephone is an estimate based on what you have described, not an offer. The firm figure is given with the gun in front of us on the bench, and may be higher or lower once we have measured wall thickness, checked the action and read the proof marks.

By selling or part exchanging a gun to us you confirm that it is yours to sell, free of any finance or dispute, and that you have told us honestly about its history including any repair, sleeving, re-stocking or reproof you are aware of.

We will always give you an estimate before starting work, and we will contact you before exceeding it. Timescales quoted are honest estimates rather than guarantees; parts for older guns can take time to find and the weeks before the season are our busiest.

Guns left with us for work or storage remain your property and are insured while on our premises. You will need to produce your certificate to collect a firearm or shotgun. Where a gun has been left with us for more than six months after we have told you the work is finished, and we have made reasonable attempts to contact you in writing, we reserve the right to sell it and account to you for the proceeds less our charges.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015: guns sold to consumers must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Second-hand guns are sold as used, and fair wear and tear described at the time of sale is not a fault. Because sales are completed face to face at our premises rather than at a distance, the fourteen-day distance selling cancellation right does not apply.

New guns carry the manufacturer's warranty and we will handle any claim under it on your behalf. Second-hand guns bought from us are covered by our own guarantee against mechanical failure, the terms of which are set out on your receipt.

We are not liable for misuse, unauthorised alteration, use of unsuitable or reloaded ammunition, use of steel shot in a gun not proved for it, or damage from neglect. Ammunition and cartridge choice remain your responsibility, and if in doubt you should ask us before shooting.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute falls to the courts of England and Wales. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
