Who we are
Perkin Guns is a registered firearms dealer trading from Badby Lane, Staverton, Northamptonshire NN11 6DE. For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, we are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. Our full registered company details and RFD number are shown in the footer of this website.
If you have a question about this policy, or you want to exercise any of the rights set out below, write to us at the address above, email sales@perkinguns.co.uk, or ring the shop on 01327 705 497.
What we collect and why
Enquiries and contact forms. When you send an enquiry about a gun, a service, a valuation or a visit, we collect your name, email address, telephone number, the subject you chose and whatever you write in the message. We use this only to answer you and to keep a record of the conversation. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: you have asked us a question and we cannot answer it without your details.
Selling and valuation submissions. If you use the sell your gun form we collect the same contact details plus the make, model, gauge or calibre, barrel length, condition and history you give us, and any photographs you upload. Photographs are stored in a private area that is not published anywhere on this website and is readable only by us. Our lawful basis is again legitimate interests, and for any resulting purchase, the performance of a contract with you.
Stock alerts. If you ask to be told when particular stock arrives, we keep your email address and the criteria you gave us until you ask us to stop. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by replying to any alert or by emailing us.
The firearms register. Where you buy, sell, deposit or transfer a firearm or shotgun through us, we are required by the Firearms Act 1968 and its subsequent amendments to record your name, address, certificate number and the details of the gun in our register, and to notify your firearms licensing department. Our lawful basis for this is compliance with a legal obligation. We cannot delete these entries on request, and the retention periods are set by law rather than by us.
Website analytics. If and when we enable analytics on this website, it will be described in our cookie policy and, where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent before any non-essential cookie is set.
How long we keep it
General enquiries and stock alerts: up to two years from your last contact with us, unless you ask us to remove them sooner.
Valuation and selling submissions, including photographs: up to two years, so that we can refer back to a figure we quoted you.
Sales records and financial records: six years plus the current financial year, as required for tax purposes.
Firearms register entries and associated records: for the period required by firearms legislation, which is considerably longer and which we cannot shorten at your request.
Your rights
You have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have inaccurate information corrected, to ask us to delete information where we have no continuing legal reason to keep it, to object to or ask us to restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent where consent is the basis we relied on. Where we hold information because firearms law requires it, we will explain why a deletion request cannot be met in full.
We will respond to any request within one month. There is no charge. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Security
Enquiries submitted through this website are transmitted over an encrypted connection and stored in a database that is not publicly readable. Photographs uploaded through the selling form go into a private storage area with no public access. Paper records, certificates and the firearms register are held securely on the premises in line with the conditions of our registration.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change, and the revision date will be shown at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you directly where we hold contact details for you.
